Charitable trusts

Certain donors may establish charitable trusts that provide benefits both to the donor or their family and to the nonprofit organization.

Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRTs)

CRTs provide income to the donor or beneficiaries for life or a set term. When the trust ends, the remaining assets are distributed to the nonprofit.

Charitable Lead Trusts (CLTs)

CLTs provide income to the nonprofit for a set number of years. After the term ends, the remaining assets pass to the donor’s heirs.

These strategies are typically used by donors with complex financial planning needs and require professional advisors.
