Activating a donor-advised fund to increase support
Karen has been a long-time supporter of [ABC Charity] and regularly recommends grants to the organization through her donor-advised fund (DAF) at the community foundation.
Over the years, she appreciated the flexibility of using her DAF to support causes she cares about.
While reviewing her estate plans, Karen learned that many donor-advised fund providers allow account holders to name successor or remainder beneficiaries for their fund.
She contacted the community foundation that manages her DAF to learn more about the options available.
After discussing the idea with her financial advisor, Karen decided to name [ABC Charity] as one of the beneficiaries of her donor-advised fund.
During her lifetime, she will continue recommending grants to the organizations she supports. After her lifetime, any remaining funds in the account will be distributed according to her instructions.
“I like knowing that the fund I’ve used for years will continue supporting [ABC Charity] and the other causes that matter most to me,” Karen said.
Important Note: Donor-advised fund policies vary by sponsoring organization. Donors should consult their financial and tax advisors before making decisions about charitable giving strategies.
