But what’s an endowment in the first place? The term “endowment” refers to funds that are invested in a structure designed to support a charitable organization in perpetuity. The cash, stock, or other property given to an endowment by donors is invested for the long term, and the charity typically receives the annual income on the investments, thereby preserving and growing the principal to generate income for years and decades.
